Rose City Story Night III
Where: Rose City Book Pub
When: March 1st, 7:00 PM
And this time, I’ll be offering a prize! A signed copy of Not Forever, But For Now by Chuck Palahniuk goes to the crowd favorite, so bring something strong, and leave with a book that will look especially handsome on your shelf.
You have 10 minutes before your turn is finished, so be sure to time yourself and practice before hand.
The second round of Rose City Story night smashed, with over double the readers that came the first time. We had a healthy mix of poetry, prose, and personal essay.
Emerging makers, testing their work in front of crowds, sometimes for the very first time vindicates their position as makers. Once they get a taste for the approval of a crowd, it inspires them to continue producing and bringing their work to the public.
Even more importantly, these new makers see each other out in the wild, and start making friends with each other. They show each other support, and form workshops of their own, and start rolling together as a gang of writers, ready to take over any public event they’re invited to.
It’s how me and some of my friends met, and continue to entertain crowds.
After the last story night, I was so completely wiped, I dropped on the couch in the Rose City Book Pub. But then something magical happened. All around me, all these writers started mingling, and praising each others work. They exchanged contact information and started making plans to get coffee or drinks. They made friends with each other, and friendships born out of a shared passion hold up more so than friendships bred out of working together, or going to the same school.
Until next time,
Colton Merris
I’m coming to this one.
